i recently was wanting to unplug the wastegate on my turbo in my '96 PSD but i was told that there isnt one on that year of truck. is this true? what can a guy do to up the boost in his turbo without spending alot of money?
A wastegate in the newer psd only dumps exsess boost. So with no wastegate you lose no boost that your turbo makes. The only thing to make more boost is to either upgrade your turbo or chip your truck, which will give your engine more fuel and hence a little more boost.
i dont see how you have any boost without a wastegate
A wastegate does not make boost. A wastegate is a built in, controlled exhaust leak. It bleeds off exhaust before the turbo can make use of it......preventing boost from being made. The wastegate is not for perfomance...it is ANTI-performance. If my turbo was Superman the wastegate would be Kryptonite.
on a side note cookie88, would damage be done if the wastegate on a 99 was disconnected? Or, if i wanted to control boost, should i get a boost controler and hook it into that red line?
