high revving between shifts

i have recently installed 2 new clutch fans and the don't drop down fast enough between shifts... there is a slight delay when shifting from gear to gear... almost sounds like i'm over-revving the engine to get to the next gear when all i'm doing is stepping on the clutch... any ideas on what this might be?>?

thanks in advance

Maybe your throttle isn't closing fast enough. Most all have a spring that closes it when you let your foot off.

This could also be incorrect engine timing.

You might hear the fan but i wouldn't think that is the cause.

Alright i have this problem also. But mine comes and goes, and its usually not your spring, I checked that spring, and its pretty tight.

My best guess for this problem is the TPS erroring at where the throttle is at. So it opens the throttle up for a second before it realizes, "Hey, i dont need to do this." and then works normally.

Personally i like it when my truck runs like crap, adn after i push in the clutch the revs drop like a big rock. Makes shifting easy.

i checked local store for TPS, they said 30 dollars. i was asounded. So i'm going to check another local place here soon after i get stereo in my truck here on monday.

I'm quite sure that the TPS replacement will fix it. I've lubed that spring and all the axles and pivots in there up really good. and there are no catches.

my only other theroy is that the cruse controle is being a pain and trying to help you push the gas down. *giggles*
but thats a dumb theory.

my truck seems to have a similar problem...

when i clutch it the revs , sometimes, just climb to about 3000. Sometimes they drop down and sometimes they just sit there.. being obnoxious...

i've barely got exhaust on my truck so sitting in traffic revving at 3000 is not getting me any points of favor.

What??? Are you just joking? Its a tps not fly by wire.

Don, as said before definitly check for a sticking throttle. Linkage binding, weak spring, cable sticking, ect. Also, check for a locked up or dragging fan clutch when hot. Perhaps all you are hearing is the fan because the fan clutch will not dissengage. If it is actually the engine that is over revving, im sure this would be visible via the tac. If so, you could have an iac/isc that is slowly failing and or its control circuit. It could stick at times causing the high engine speed.

My 2 cents.

There are so many things that can cause it to idle high or take it's time coming back to idle. The O2 sensor, dirty throttle body, sticky throttle cable, vacuum leaks, upper plenum gasket to name a few. You might want to check for codes.

I was finally able to eliminate the problem in mine with the installation of a MAF conversion kit which included a new computer. A rather expensive solution, but well worth it for me since it addressed some other issues I had with the stock speed density EFI.

I also recently replaced my fan clutch. You have to get the right one for the direction your fan turns. The fan I replaced seized and it made a roar like a jet engine so while the new one is noisy(especially when cold), it's nothing compared to the broken one.
