I think it is because with a diesel when you back off the throttle engine speed and vehical momentum fall flat thus causing less braking then say a gas powered vehicle.
I think the way I drive I will get at least 75.000 miles out of mine because I use the trany more then the breaks. Well the truck has 13,300 miles on it we will just have to see at the end of the summer we will be packing the miles this year. Good luck

what costs more to repair? the clutch from downshifting? or the auto transmission from excessive wear? or the brakes?
well i have 55k already and they seem to be only half gone. I was just curious cuz I drive everything hard. I had dodges before this anfd their brakes were terrible. i would only get 30k approx out of those
Just replaced my Fronts last fall, around 78000 miles, I think that they where the original pads, don't know for sure, bought the truck with 65000 miles. The Rear brakes had already been replaced.
