Hey Y'all! I've been a lurker for a while. My buddy has a '97 that seems to require the advanced knowledge of this board, so I've been at FTE for a bit. Well, I scored a killer deal on a '78 LWB with a 302-c6-9". This is the first Ford I've owned in a decade, and my first ever truck. I'm a hotrodder at heart, so I think with a 5-oh and a 9", alls I need are new cogs and a more efficient tranny and I've got a 13-14sec 1/4miler that can do my haulin and haul at the same time
Here's the story behind the 'ol girl:
So, I lowball the seller and he takes my offer! I tell him Ill tow it this weekend. After getting home and thinking about all that the owner's done to it, I think I can drive it. So I take by best 2 gearhead friends and we go over there in my '93 honda grocery-getter. I tried calling the seller, but he didnt answer so he was surprised at our showing up. When I told him i was taking it home, he said "whatcha gonna tow it with?....that?!?!?"
A jumpstart, two shots of Ether and a small carb-fire and she was puttin'. She smoked like a Burlington-northern for a bit, but to the astonishment of the seller, she ran good, apart from not being on the street for nearly 4 years...even with the old gas. So I drove it home (about 3 miles) and put it in the driveway. I've started it a few times since and checked things out: no smoke, no oil leaks and no hesitation to wake up.
Up next... learning from the forum, tearing into the carb, tailshaft seal, exh manifold gasket, brake flush, PS investigation and a bath!
