Post Self Intro:

Hello,

Yes, my "handle" is my name. I've only used a "handle" a couple of times in my life. Just don't seem to have the imagination it takes to come up with one usually.

Well, my sig states what vehicles I've got at the moment. (Though I did omit the rusting T/A sitting out behind the garage.)

I've been ghosting this board for years. Just recently decided to "make an appearance" - I don't often post on BBSes - old habit, avoid conflict that way.

Anyway, my first Ford was the '94 Explorer - bought it used in January '96. Loved it so much, and had so little problems with it (except for that blasted vibration at 60 mph!) that, when my wife said that her company was selling one of their supervisor vehicles - a '91 F-250 - I knew it would be worth looking at. It was WELL used, but even at 150K miles I figured, it's a Ford, trust it.

I still have both and can't seem to find a reason to buy a new vehicle. This is the first time I've gone this long without a car payment! I guess that makes me a new "FTE".

I've always been "not mechanically inclined", but though the trucks are HARD to work on, I've started enjoying it (between the swearing sessions) and my wife think's I'm going through a (belated) mid-life crises. I actually got me my first compressor & a few pneumatic tools recently (the impetus for that came from watching a mechanic use a pneumatic ratchet wrench and I was imediately wanting one too!

Heck! I've even just fixed my garage door so it will be easier to open after years of it being busted!

Anyway, nice to meet ya'll.

Thanks guys.

It does seem to be a very friendly community here. What is just as impressive is the knowledge base to draw on. I mean, some of these guys are diagnosing problems from short discriptions (which I guess means "been there, done that, have the t-shirt") and a lot of you are really into performance type stuff or restoration of real classics, but will stop to take the time to tell me where my PCV Valve is.

Welcome, this forum is like a "virtual" repair manual. People are always willing to help out.

Whereabouts do you live in Norfolk? I'm in VA BCH, just off Indian River Rd.

I sort of envy you, not having a car payment- and 2 Fords, too!! That makes it even better.
See ya around!

Thanks for the welcome, Fordfaggiole & jskufan. I am enjoying the site a LOT. And leraning a lot - like jskufan said - "virtual repair manual" - the interactive type!

Hey stu37d! I live in the Five-points area, if you know where that is - Estabrook Gardens to be exact. But I have friends in your area - so we may have (almost) run into each other at that Kempsville/Indian River Rd. intersection.

Yeah, I credit the fact that both are Fords for having a lot to do with not having a car payment! It's nice to have a vehicle outlast the loan! (94 Explorer) - As for the Truck, it was a great buy as it turns out - as "old" as it was, it's just too "neat" a vehicle to give up. (The wife insists it is HER truck, BTW - go figure!)

Welcome to FTE, Roy. You are right, there are so many friendly people here, and always willing to help. They all pitched in and answered the questions I've asked, even if they (the questions, not the people ) were pretty dumb. I have a truck on order that I feel very comfortable with, no remorse or 2nd thoughts, and I really feel like it's because of everything I've learned from the great folks here at FTE. It's been fun hanging around the couple months I've been here. Hope you stay awhile, too.

Not a problem Mil1ion - I'm used to being overlooked.

Your suggestion for a nick is rather astute - most don't really pickup on my timidity - especially those with whom I've had a difference of opinion. (I'm more known to those folks for my aggressiveness /me shrugs)

You have already gone well into the mechanic-ing world. Once you have learned to swear at what you are working on, you arrived.

Now you just gotta practice with those tools.

Welcome to the wonderful world of "I fixed it myself!"

Does swearing at the "Professional Mechanic" that last worked on what I'm having to re-fix count?
