I was doing some more vibration experiments today to and from work. With radio and ac fan turned off I moved my seat forward and leaned towards the windshield. There is no doubt there is a leak somewhere around the seal of the windshield. I'm not sure if it was coming from the top or the bottom but it seemed like it was near the middle of the windshield. It starts only at 55mph and up. Less than that and the "hiss" is not present. When seated back it sounds like regular road wind noise. But now that it's clear it is a flaw I definitely have to have it fixed.
Some of you act like chicken little. You must have something else to do besides doing "vibration" experiments! The last job I would like is being a service manager, because I would be in jail~:O)
I agree with HOVY, the more you look for trouble the more you find, real or imaginary, mostly the later me thinks. It's a truck, not a Rolls Royce.. My F-150 is the best truck I have bought in the passed 20 years, no problems except for the ashtray won't open properly & I don't smoke, so who cares. I really enjoy driving it, handles great, I'm impressed with this truck..
I could not agree more. BUT, When Ford markets it as such, expectations are very high, not to mention the fact that a loaded F-150 cost more then a lot of luxury & sports cars on the market.
I'm sorry, but you guys that say "it's just a truck" really get under my skin. Its my money I'll bit*h about it how I please. Look at it this way, if you're employer cuts your check $.10 per week are you going to say " it's just a dime " , I trust everyone here can do the math to see how much that amounts to in a years time. I bet you guys are the ones that drop pennies on the ground and just keep walking. I'm that cheap skate basta*d walking behind you picking them up!! I was taught that if I would look after my pennies, the dollars would take care of themselves.
If ford wasn't running around saying the new F150 is so quiet I wouldn't complain one bit. I openly admit this new f150 is indeed quiet until you hit 55mph, then its like I'm driving into a wind tunnel. I wouldn't be complaining so much if the trucks I test drove back in January would have had the same wind noise. But hey, those trucks (3 FX4's) were dead quiet at 70+mph.

Part of the fun of owning a new or used vehicle is modification. The wind noise is so minor, yes it's not the end of the world. But it's fun talking about these "flaws" and finding fixes for it. Happens all the time. Check any newgroup on google concerning any type of vehicle. If you're willing to accept the flaw how minor or major, it's cool by me. I won't rain on your parade!!!
Didn't mean to "dampen" your spirit. I don't accept any flaws, but I don't take the time to go looking. As far as "getting your moneys worth" by all means I agree. In 97 I had Ford buy back a new model year f150 because of 5 times in the shop for a vibration. I wasn't on line then either, just well informed of my rights as a consumer.
I guess to each his own. When I go for a drive either in my truck or one of our cars I concentrate on the drive itself. I like driving a fine automobile and fix or repair "flaws" as I come across them. I just can't imagine jumping in one and getting on a winding road just to see if something is wrong. My wife would tink I fell out of the tree and hit my head if I said "I am taking the car out for a drive to see if anything is wrong with it"! LOL

Well the reason I did the vibration testing is because I'm curious as to what it is all about. If I had the vibration problem, then I could join the others in searching for a cure. The wind noise just I just happened to come upon. It's not a "wind tunnel" loud like ultramax has, but it is there. Since it is so minor I can take my time to find it and seal it. But if it was as loud as his I guarantee both you and I would be annoyed.
look guys, I just took my truck back in for a couple minor repairs. needed my tire patched (got a nail in it), and I've had an annoying rattle coming from under my steering wheel since I bought the truck. They gave me a 2004 dodge quad cab to drive, and IMO my 2004 f150 isn't any quieter than this truck. However, the dodge does feel much cheaper and my audiophile sounds 100X better than the dodge's infinity system. The steering on the dodge isn't that great either, and it appears to be a very high reving motor. I hear a lot of engine noise but the speed doesn't take off untill it turns about 3.5-4 grand. Don't take me as one of those guys that is suddenly talking bad about the F150, I've truly enjoyed driving it since the day I bought it. It just sort of bothers me that the wind noise appears excesive IMO.
I guess I'll just keep my audiophile turned up so I don't hear the wind noise!
Toreador, these people don't understand, I also have the same problem after 45 miles per hour it starts and in my opinion is annoying... very nuch annoying. Mine also sounds as if it's coming from the middle of the windshield. have you done anything about it yet?
