Waasupp peoples....I need an opinion.
I have a 90 bronco and the top has NEVER been off never and I would
like to try it this summer I've asked a few people and they said that they
heard once you remove it it's very hard to get it to reseal back on perfect.
Is this true or not or should I leave the 14 year old top alone?
By the way the truck is in very good condition not a rot bucket.
oh hell yes take it off!!!!!!!! seriously just be carefull when removeing it and putting it back on not to snag and tear the seals (gaskets, weatherstripping) have atleast one other maybe two capable people help you handle it its not to heavy but its size is awkward, and therefore makes it easy to lose control over, when i remove mine i always wipe down all the seals (rubber) with silicone spray to lubricate them and keep them from drying out, and i put a couple of 2x4's on the ground that are alittle wider than the top itself for it to set on, i dont like to put it directly on the ground, one other thing, after you remove it becarfull not to loose any of those little body nuts that screws screw into, you'll see them when you remove the top. Good luck DW
P.S. ENJOY!
I took mine off for the first time since i've had it, and i was so bummed when i had to put it back on to drive to work(i work at a plant and it can't stay open cab)
I was so happy with it off, i'm buying a soft top for it so I can keep it off all summer!!
...chicks love topless! (i'm married...wife loves topless too hehehe)
TOPLESS!!!!!!! DW2455 has the right advice....a little spray on the seals will help you keep from doing what I did with mine...put the top back on, dry seals...then next time I took it off..they were stuck to the top..and rip. The spray will keep it from sticking to the top as well as keep it from drying out. Shouldn't have any probs with leaks or anything then.
I had my 82 for about 5 months and took the top off it for the first time when spring rolled around. It hasent leaked ounce, and I used silicone spray on the seals. My 82 top was never removed before then and it's 20 years old.
HAVE YOUR TRUCK LIKE YOU LIKE YOUR WOMEN...TOPLESS!!!! ive also got a 90 bronco (bought about two years ago) and took the top off last summer. Its the greatest feeling in the world, and my girlfriend loves it topless too. It can be kind of a b*tch to get on and off but, for me the hardest part was just unscrewing the screws (because it took a while) but other than that it only took my father and i too get it off. One person stand inside the truck and puch upward from the center and the other person at the tailgate to guide it backwards. Then once its almost off, have the second person hold it while you jump back on the ground and then just carry it like you were moving a table. Like the other guys said, just watch the seals when your taking it off or putting it on. Try it once and youll love it!!!
i hope soon i can get a "Kayline" soft top so i can take it off more often. And also to put it on quicker in the nighttime and during rain. But the $600 cost for it has still managed to keep me and the soft top apart.
Give it a try!!! I have had my hardtop off and on several times in the past with no leaky problems. If you're like other Bronco drivers, you will not want to put the top back on.
anyways, its been off for one full day....it was only low 60's today and about 10 minutes of very light drizzle....tomorrow....about 70 and near 80 for the weekend....takin it to the beach.
i took mine off and the kids thought it was cool to make a puzzle out of the upper seal on the top. it was a cool puzzle i used contact cement to piece it back together. i figured if it was going to leak that would do it. it was all fine no leaks. the guy i bought my bronco from said he had the top off and on a least a dozen times and never had to replace the seals. if you are careful you will be fine, just have a strong person there to help take it from the truck to the ground. i think you can get the seals from BRONCO GRAVEYARD. LIFT IT ABOUT 3-4 IN ON THE FRONT PART OF THE TOP AFTER REMOVING ALL THE HARDWARE AND SLIDE BACK. a friend didnt lift his hi enough and tore his seals pretty bad. be careful and go slow the first time and enjoy all the comfort of the open air...
