Rear Gears

Ive got a 73 with a 9", 3.5 gears and an open differential in my truck. I mainly drive on paved roads, but sometimes find myself out in the country.

I was at the wreckers and found a 75 with a 9", 3.5 and limited slip.

Anyways I was wondering if it's worth the trouble to swap out the entire assembly, or would I just do a lot of work to find out I don't notice the difference.

well, it wouldn't be that much work....if anything, it will be pretty easy if you have any kind of mechanical ability. the only reason you wouldn't notice a difference is if the limited slip unit in the rearend is worn out. how much is the guy asking for the rearend? that would be a big factor. imho, i would do it since i live in the snowbelt and it would make a pretty big difference to me. depending on what you drive in, you may or may not notice a difference. it's all in what you need.

Make sure the spline count is the same as yours or it would be all for not.

$29.99 for the whole assembely, took me about half an hour to pull out. I think it's a 28 spline axle, but I'll have to take another look at it to make sure. Is there anyway to tell how many splines are on my axles without taking them out ???
