I tried to get my plug out of my 2003 8.8 F150 diff and it wouldn't budge. I used the 3/8 socket extension. Is there a better tool? Should I heat it, or just have another beer? Ford said it is lubed for life, yea right. It does look like they used some locking compound on the threads. Thanks for any tips.
when they get tight like that,I take a 3/8 ext,put it in the hole, smack the end of the ext a couple times with a hammer to help jar it alittle, then I use a 3/8breaker bar and a pipe on the breaker bar, that almost always breaks them loose.

I have not worked on a new Ford since 2000, though I do believe yours is a metric fitting and not 3/8 and will round out if an extension is used. Most likely it is on with red lock-tite. There is a lock-tite (green?) that can be applied and it will seep in and destroy the red without having to use heat.
You were right it is red lock tite. I'll have to look into the different colors. I have always used blue. And who would have thunk they would use metric on the square hole. Looks like I need to buy another tool, (not a bad thing).
I tried it with the 3/8 extension, and it just didn't feel right, very sloppy. I put a few dents in the inside lands, but nothing drastic. Sure wasn't looking forward to applying head to a LSD rear end.
