Need Help Here?

Ok, here it is. My MPG on my truck sucks big time. I read these threads where somebody gets between 700 and 750 miles to a tank of diesel. On another thread some body said his fuel gauge mark does'nt move off of full until about 100 miles. Mine moves off of full around 35 miles. I get around maybe between 350 and 400 miles to a tank of diesel. I average around 12 in the city and around 15 to 16 on the highway, an thats running empty, not pulling nuttin. I have a 2001 Superduty, of course with the 7.3 Diesel, crewcab, 4x4, shortbed. I have changed my exhaust from stock to a 4" Dynomax from turbo back. I have it lifted 4" with a superlift, I have the AIS intake, I recently added the 10 K mod, I do run 35" BFG all-terrains which will make a difference in my MPG's but I have been getting crappy mileage from the getgo. What can I do to improve this. My truck is a daily driver from going to work to the grocery store. My wife loves it but she is starting to get the reda** about the MPG's. I do try to keep my RPM's under 2000 or around 2000 when I am at cruising speed. Anyways HELP ME. later

First of all, since you have the shortbed you have the small tank, not the 38 gallon tank that will get you 700-750 miles/tank. Your mileage doesn't sound that far off to me for a CC 4x4. Do you gun it on starts? That will make a huge difference.

Thanks johnsdiesel for the quick reply. I never even thought about my tank size when I read that somebody was getting 700 to 750 miles to a tank. Your right, he probably has the 38 gallon tank. Wow, am I bad. Well if my mileage seems to be pretty close to the norm then I guess I will just have to live with it. Sure aint gettin rid of it. Any way thanks again fellow Texan.

Based on previously owning trucks and then lifting them your mileage will go down probably 1-3 mpg with larger tires, especially with city driving. Sometimes you can get a little better mpg's with larger tires on the highway because you lower your gear ratio a little. I wouldn't sweat it bud, it doesn't sound too bad. I would definitely run Diesel Kleen or Standadyne in your truck if you're not already. That may help you a little in the mpg area, but atleast your truck will be running much better.
