It was brought to my attention, by a fleet mechanic, that there may be a problem with the 6.0 pistons overheating and melting!!!
He was attending a training class where the instructor related it was a big enough problem to warrant Ford "Acknowledging" it. I was wondering if anyone else has heard this? I am going to call my favorite Ford employee and see if there is anything to it. More will follow, if I can find it.
Pyrometers prevent this from ever happening. Any turbo diesel has the potential to melt pistons, or turbos. The more power it makes, the greater the chances.
My stock reman 7.3 turbo will rather quickly get to the point I back off the throttle to keep from melting pistons. How much more than 195 HP and 400 Ft. Lbs of torque does the smaller 6.0 PS make?
If an injector clogs or other wise quits working..........that cylinder will go to critical mass and pull the ring land off the piston, in reality it does not melt only a part of it does.......a small part.......however they really run like poop when that happens.
