'69 steering box replacement

OK, once you've pulled the three main bolts that hold the box to the frame,
and you've pulled the steering linkage off of the bottom w/ a pickle fork,
how do you pull the top off of that material joint?

Also, my original box that's still on there is a bendix...the new one is a ford,
as was recommended to me. The ford looks a lot bigger...is there a reason for this, will it fit?

Thanks!

J

There should be a 12 point 7/16" nut on the bottom of the rag joint, that will let it slide off the steering shaft. the bolt tightens the rag joint clamp in place.

I believe that the Ford box will require a different lenght column than the Bendix. I understand the Bendix to be close to the same height as the manual box (a switch I just made when doing a body swap). It works, but looks about 1/2" long in the cab.

I purchased a rebuilt Bendix at Advance Auto parts for $225ish (with core).
