Throttle Position Sensor

I was wondering if anyone else has had to replace their Throttle Position Sensor on a 2002 with the Power Pedals? I just replaced mine for the second time. :-(

Throttle Position Sensor

I've never had to replace mine, but I'm curious: what happens when one goes bad? Are you just stuck at idle, or is it something else?

And a wish list that gets longer every day.

Throttle Position Sensor

My experience with the Throttle Position Sensor when it starts to fail is: a dead spot in the throttle response, usually in the initial throttle "tip in", or all of a sudden You press on the go pedal, and no response, engine stays at idle, but with another try it might act normal. Sometimes it takes several tries, and it will respond, the same respnse going down the road. It is similar to a carbureator with a bad accelerator pump. The complete failure is You are stuck at base idle speed, and no throttle response. I managed to limp home from Mobile,AL to northern Indiana when My original TPS went bad. One interesting thing is, if You can stay on the cruise control, and adjust the speed with the cruise, it acts normally, but come off the cruise, and use the go pedal, it is back to the no resonse, or dead spots. The TPS comes as a pedal assembly, and is easy to change. If the Truck has the adjustable pedals, there are three 10mm head bolts, wiring harness connector, and cable for the pedals. I could change one in about ten to fifteen minutes. One other interesting thing, I did only briefly get a check engine light.

Throttle Position Sensor

I'm on my third one so far and had the same exact symptoms. I did notice that this occured when the weather was cold and wet. So far this year so good, but then it's been a very dry and mild winter here in Eastern Washington.

Throttle Position Sensor

Just went through a position sensor shut down. I was pulling out of a gas station with a boat in tow and the engine just shut down. I would try to restart and it would run for a few seconds and shut down again. I had a tow truck come get it and when he arrived he started the truck and it ran in idle as long as it took to get it on board.
I have one friend that keeps a spare sensor behind his seat for fear his will go out one day.
