95 Ps Oil Problem Please Help

Ok guys I really need help. Has 158K miles runs strong. Tows without a problem. Only thing is after a 2 hour trip it burns about 2 quarts. Sometimes more sometimes less. But in any case it burns oil. Is this TOO MUCH. I do know that diesels burn oil, but how much??? Please help!!!

Another thing is this: At cold starts it burns oil like crazy. bluish smoke not the typical black diesel smoke. So definitely oil!!! After it warms up and driven until it is totally warmed up then it is fine. No OIL burning visually. Could be though, but not sure..... Another incident is this: when after driving and engine is all warmed up, if I stop for a few minutes at idle, then it will start smoking that bluish smoke again.

I have already checked the compressor wheel. little play only.... seals could be bad, but may not since only little play. seems normal like all I've felt.

Piston Rings??? HOpe not...

How does oil get consumed in diesel engines??? I know on gas engines oil seeps through the ring and gets burnt often, but what happens on diesels???
is there an injectors/port that oil goes through to get consumed in with the diesel fuel??? I'm confused......

HELP!!!

Ya I would Check the Injector O-Rings with that many Miles. Open the Fuel filter and see if the Fuel looks black, If so then Yes you have an O-Ring problem.

I agree, sounds like an o-ring problem.

The injector o-rings. About $10-12 per cyl to rebuild.

so when the injector oring gives, that will cause oil to mix with diesel fuel in the combustion chamber??? therefore yielding the bluish smoke. in addition, when driven and heated the bluish smoke diminishes because no more mixture. Is this partly correct.

YEAH GUYS I'm STILL ON here waiting for....... HELP...

You just about got it there hondtech. The fuel is mixing with the oil that fires the injectors due to bad o ring. Change all the injector o rings and that should cure the problem. The oil showing up in the filter housing is because of returned fuel is also mixed with oil.

have any of you guys seen the piston rings give up on a 158K PSD??? I mean the truck has been through good treatment. no hard racing or towing. max tow was only 9-10k... average about 6K only. Piston rings gone???

what do you guys think???

thx so much friends.

i'm thinking about 99+ PSD

No on this end. Dont get excited about oil consumption. Check the fuel in the filter and then make the decision from that examination and if necessary, Shoot for the o rings on the injectors.

dang it i thought there would be more help here... come on more of you guys have to respond. i really need some hints or anything if possible. what happen to the big dogs that give advice...

Ok I spoke to a Ford Diesel mechanic. His opinion: If the oil isn't getting filled higher up the dip stick then the o-rings on the injectors are NOT bad. If the oil is getting consumed then MAYBE the piston rings and/or scratches on the cylinder walls. his price: $600 for leak-down test <----DAMN!!

Let me hear your thoughts guys....

he said no way it is the injector Oring because diesel would rather leak into the head instead of oil leaking into the injector Oring and into the combustion chamber. Fuel pressure is higher where oil and Oring meets, so he does have a point. Fuel would seep out instead of oil entering from the oring.. right???

OPINIONS master diesel mechanics....

No offense, but the reason you haven't received more posts is because these symptoms are classic signs of injector o-ring failure. In addition, a lot of Ford service techs don't know very much about diesels.

John, wouldn't you think fuel from the injector would embody the head since fuel pressure is higher in the head then oil pressure. fuel would burst into the head and cause mixture and would therefore raise the oil level dipstick to overcapacity...

Let me know your thoughts.

thx so much though john...

Listen, The O-rings Go Around The Outside Of The Injector And Then The Injector Is Slide Into The Head (with O-rings Lubricated).i Recommend Getting The O-rings From Ford Or International So The Right O-rings Are Installed.
