dang it i thought there would be more help here... come on more of you guys have to respond. i really need some hints or anything if possible. what happen to the big dogs that give advice...
Ok I spoke to a Ford Diesel mechanic. His opinion: If the oil isn't getting filled higher up the dip stick then the o-rings on the injectors are NOT bad. If the oil is getting consumed then MAYBE the piston rings and/or scratches on the cylinder walls. his price: $600 for leak-down test <----DAMN!!
Let me hear your thoughts guys....
he said no way it is the injector Oring because diesel would rather leak into the head instead of oil leaking into the injector Oring and into the combustion chamber. Fuel pressure is higher where oil and Oring meets, so he does have a point. Fuel would seep out instead of oil entering from the oring.. right???
OPINIONS master diesel mechanics....
the best way to do a compression test on these diesels is to remove the injector, get a blower attatched to your air compressor, get a rag and seal the area between the nozzel and the hole for the injector and blow. if the piston rings are bad then you will hear air rushing between the piston and cylinder wall. this will save you $600. While you are removing the injectors you can ckeck the o-rings at this time
I will already go ahead and defend my reply because I know someone is not going to like it. I know that it sounds shade tree but that is what we do at the dealership that I work at.
No offense, but the reason you haven't received more posts is because these symptoms are classic signs of injector o-ring failure. In addition, a lot of Ford service techs don't know very much about diesels.
wouldn't you think fuel from the injector would embody the head since fuel pressure is higher in the head then oil pressure. fuel would burst into the head and cause mixture and would therefore raise the oil level dipstick to overcapacity...
The oil that would be leaking by the o-rings is high pressure oil. 500psi @ idle and up to 3000psi WOT. So you oil pressure is much higher than your fuel pressure. Like Johnsdiesel and others have stated, you have the classic symptoms of injector o-ring failure.

Don't know as though I completely agree with you on that point. You are correct about the oil pressures but there is an approx 7:1 increase on the fuel pressure (3000psi oil/21000psi fuel) due to the taper of the injector. But yes, it does sound like o-ring failure.

You are correct BUT...The high fuel pressure is injected directly into the cylinder. Where you get cross contamination is in the injector sleeve where fuel pressure is low and oil pressure is high and the failure is in the o-rings that seperate the different "rails" in the head.
hey tortur and the rest of the group... thx so much...
I am actually a gasoline high performance turbo mechanic/engineer. I have never step foot into the realm of diesels. This is all new to me. Basically I have to do research from new. I've been reading and looking at my 95PSD and have learned so much already. Never seen an injector within a cyl head before... Thx for the link. I have already read so much about diesels. Now i'll go replace those orings. That has to be the cause even now since i've read books at the library and the new link here, I know it is the oring.
