Have you loosened the fuel line at the banjo fitting? Or is this the problem area?

talk to Dr. farmer phil, whats the real problem. Were you forced to ride in substandard vehicles as a child and now that you have a Ford you feel like there is nothing else you can do to better yourself?

C'mon Dr. FP, I've admitted to the momentary lapse in my mental state, I was delusional when I mention the "D" word. I'm all better now. My lift pump is attached to to something that sits partially under the turbo pedestal and I can't get the pump up high enough to remove it. The part attached to the pump has a round top with hard lines coming out of either side that run to the rear of both heads, presumably the to the fuel rails???? Is there an easier way to remove the pump?

On the 94.5 - 96 it is virtually impossible to remove the steel fuel line with the turbo pedestal in place, however the '97 has a revised fuel line. You have to remove the fitting's at the back of the each head (trace the lines back) then you can remove the nut on the banjo fitting (1 1/4" I believe) and slide the line back and clear of the pump. NOTE: the fittings at the back of the hard line are sealed with rubber o-ring like seals, replace these at this time. These are available from Ford for next to nothing, also get the seals for the banjo fitting, these are cheap also. Be careful, when you take the lines loose at the heads, so you don't break the brass fittings that screw into the heads.

The build date on mine is 06/97, but I must have the old style pump. There is no way it is coming out without removing the turbo pedestal. The steel lines are part of the assembly, no 1 1/4" nut or banjo fitting. Thanks for the info fourstroke.........

I may be confused, but there must be a way to remove the fuel lines from your pump. Look at your new pump, I'm certain you will find no lines coming off it, but should find a large threaded port with a cast in shroud that provides the alignment for the banjo fitting. If your's is different, let us know, inquiring minds and all that. One last thing, when you do pull the pump up out of the block, be careful to pull straight up so as not to knock the tappet/cam follower loose from the pump. Look at the bottom of your new pump to see, and consider lightly greasing your new tappet to keep in place during insertion.

fourstroke, the pump I bought looks similar except for the back half is not attached. The pump on my truck has an aluminum tail piece that the steel lines come out of (no fittings) and a flat, round piece on the top with "Bosch" printed on the top. I took digital photos, but I don't know how to attach the here. I'm call the Ford dealership today to ask if there are different pumps for this year, I've checked with all the local parts houses and they all show the same pump. This is my work truck and every day it is down is costing me money

Okay, after standing on my head and nearly dislocating my elbow I was able to feel a large (probably 1 1/4") fitting on the very back of the pump assembly,(banjo fitting?) which is under the turbo pedestal. How in the wide, wide world of sports do I get a wrench in under the pedestal to remove it.

Cool

I've given up I'm unable to replace the pump without removing the turbo and pedestal , I have to have it towed to a shop for the repairs

You have to use the boxed end of a 1 1/4in wrench. If you are trying to use a cresent wrench good luck theres not much room. Another thing you might want to do is take the filter base loose were you can slide it foward to help clear the rubber line on the bottom of the pump. I just did one on my 96 this weekend no problems didnt even have to take the lines loose from the head.

I don't think I have enough room to get an end wrench between the pedestal and everything else, and then be able to even use it. I had the pump bolts out, all the rubber lines & clamps loose, filter housing bolts out,,,,,,,, I called around to a few local shops, the "book" gives anywhere from 5 - 7 hours for the job, step 1 is to remove the turbo and pedestal assembly............. That's roughly $500.00 in labor to change a $100.00 part !!!!! For that kind of $$$$$ I'm going to give it another try tomorrow. Thanks for the input 00SVT
