What do you think about the F-250 for 2004 with a 5.4 260 hp, 410 rear

Thanks,
Keith

I personally wouldn't get a F-250 with the 5.4L, i would look at the two bigger options.

What are you looking to use the truck for?

I'm pretty sure that thats pushin it for a 5.4L, if you do get it, make sure you get the 4.10 gears.

Its hard to say. I would say get the V10 because it would be great for power when driving around, and would do a better job at that hill. It wouldn't do too hot on the gas though. I don't think it would be that much worse than the 5.4L considering the efficiency of these new motors...

If I were you I would go with the 6.0 powerstroke diesel. Good gas mileage and diesel is cheaper than gas now. Plus it will pull anything.

I agree. If you have any significant towing to do a diesel is the way to go. For that matter it is the way to go period in the big trucks. The 5.4 and 6.8 are both doing well to get 12-14 mpg when you gear them to pull anything. When you load them down it's hello single digit mileage. The PSD will get about 18 no matter what if the 6.0 is like the old 7.3. The way fuel prices are here right now you would save $1000 on fuel every 20k miles, which would more than cover the increased maintenance costs of the PSD. Doesn't the PSD also have a 10/100 powertrain warranty instead of 3/36 on the gas trucks? The PSD will also have more resale value down the road.

BTW, how did this thread go from cam specs to which engine do I need?

take it from me...a friend had a v-10...couldn't change the back two spark plugs...some tool that can only be rented FROM snap-on TO a mechanic to do it, and it's a pain anyway...also...diesel up here is NOT cheaper than regular (87 octane) gasoline...it's about 5 cents more expensive...just somethin to throw out there...

If you're only moving a trailer occaisionly, the 5.4 is fine,
I've had two 5.8 F250's with 3.55 ratio, they were fine. Remember, the 92 5.8 has 60 less hp then the current 5.4. My '92 Auto would run 17.3 1/4 mile.

It's not like you're racing someone out there.
If you're getting a 4x4, then, you can always use low range for that 30 deg. incline driveway.
