What is involved?
I would like to install a 240 cu in engine into a 64 Ranchero, It has a 170 
at present. I have a complete 240 from a Fairmont (1982). Any help will be greatly welcomed. Oh, The 240 will be warmed 
a little with a cam , carb. and headers. Thanks Bill

you DON'T have a 240 from a 82 fairmont, most likely is a 200 or 250
240 prduction ended in 72.
the easiest way to tell a 240/300 from a 170/200/250 is the 240/300 has a valve cover with 6 large indents on the carb side. the small sixes have several small indents on the side of the cover.

oldhalfton, I guess what I need then is the 240/300 engine. Maybe the air cleaner has been change in this Fairmount. I rechecked and decal says 250. But you are correct. The valve cover is exactly like my 86 150. I think I need to start looking for correct engine. Thanks for the info at the web site. Thanks Bill
