From Portland swapmeet, I picked up a power steering and pump assembly purported to be a bolt-up for '65-'69 F100-F250. Planning to upgrade my '66 F250 with this. Though greasy, the units don't appear to have been leaking through any seals or connections. I would like to know if knowlegeable people think it's worthwhile to do a pre-emptive seals rehab on the Bendix or just go ahead and install? Also, I'm needing a bracket to attach the pump to the engine. Salvage yards here open on Tuesdays. There is a bracket on the pump now, but doesn't appear to be one that attaches directly to my 352. I noted in researching past threads that pump pulley routing is only to the crank pulley. What and ON what will I look for in the salvage yard to meet this need? All thoughts greatly appreciated.
Another FE engine with a Bendix setup. And get the extra crank pulley while you're at it if you don't have a P/S now, or your engine has never driven a P/S system it will lack the extra crakn pulley.
And FWIW I don't believe the Bendix system was available anymore by 69. I think it was all pretty much Ford type Saginaw systems.
I had mine rebuilt by an expert whose skills allowed him to cobble together all the necessary parts. I'm not sure it needed a rebuild, but it's great now.
I attempted to copy a friend's installation, which had a belt around the crank, the outer alternator pulley groove, and the pump. I could not make that method work because of interference with the rad hose.I later learned that my friend's installation was not correct, and that the belt should connect the pump and crank pulleys only. I had to use a somewhat uncommon offset pulley and spacers for the brackets. The correct brackets for the '66 are cast; mine came from a '67 truck. Also important are position and angle of the return port in the reservoir. If you don't get a suitable reservoir, the oil pressure sender will interfere with the hose. Good luck with your project, it's a great upgrade.
