Being a car/truck lover/nut is a lifestyle choice. Your vehicle is going to command a reasonable amount of time and attention. Those Gen X-ers spend their time sucking down martinis and sucking on cigars at the local "club", get their hair cut every week, and travel to cute little B&B's to go antiquing with the Mrs., play golf every chance they get (not that golf is bad, they just overdo it). They don't have the interest to accomplish something themselves. They will never paint their own house, never build a deck, and lots of them don't even cut their own grass. I think most of them are just a "waste of skin". They are always playing that "keeping up with the Jones's" game. They bought the car they drive because everyone they work with has bought that car. As far as they are concerned, it's the latest, greatest thing on planet Earth. It's all about show. Ignore them and take pride in the person you are. Who cares what anyone else thinks?
Don't get bent out of shape because some boob gives ya a "dirty look". Just think about this; do you think they'll be able to drive their vehicle in twenty or thirty years? I doubt it. These newer mostly plastic and throwaway vehicles just aren't made to last like the mostly metal cars and trucks of the pre 80's era. Have pride in knowing that your truck is still on the road and working well.
I love to see the older vehicles driving on the roads with all these new ones. Here in Oklahoma they are so very abundant and it doesn't really matter if it's fixed up or just barely held together; they're all cool. I don't get as many compliments in my restored 78 F150 as I did when I drove my primered and rusty 50 F1.
That's why people are different, because we don't all like the same things. Don't let it bug you. You like your truck and that is all that matters. Maybe the looks are looks of jealousy lol. I like your truck.
When I bought my truck it was the ugliest thig I have ever seen. The carb was uncontrolably rich and the paint was crap brown. I was setting in the parking lot at at work one day getting it warm enough to drive and some guys were walking by and were waving their hands due to the smoke and laughing. I just had to hit the gas and give them a little 101 with carbon monoxide. Needless to say they stopped laughing and started coughing. Drive what you wanna drive and don't worry about the rest of the people. Having a nice truck is cool but it doesn't make you cool!
Thanks for all the kind words, I will try to not let it bother me so much. Maybey I'll get a bumper sticker that says "My other car is a BMW" or something.
I think you are all right, it is just the way they are, they don't know any better.
Cripes! Don't do that! None of us would forgive ya! LOL My bumper sticker says "Caution: Driver just doesn't give a ***** anymore!!!" They don't give me dirty looks - they try really hard not to make eye contact!
