Red face Superchip and Fuel Mileage

Bought a Superchip 'puter hoping to get better fuel mileage out of my truck. I know Superchip doesen't claim to increase the mileage, but it sure makes driving more fun. Here's some MPG results if anybody's interested.

Factory Setting: 1463.9 miles, 102 gallons, 14.35 MPG

Tow Safe: 2675 miles, 177.3 gallons, 15.09 MPG

Performance Tow: 1450.2 miles, 101.52 gallons, 14.28 MPG

High Performance: 392.9 miles, 27.05 gallons, 14.5MPG

Nearly all of my driving is about 70% highway and 30% city. My truck is a 4-door, 4WD, with the 3.73 ratio. I might add that I had the Tow Safe program in it for a trip from here to Upper Michigan and back, so it was nearly all "un-loaded" highway except for pulling a trailer with 2 snowmobiles on it for maybe 300 miles, hence the better mileage.

I had a '95 7.3 with nearly the same setup as this truck except it was a supercab. I could count on 17-18 MPG with it, and quite frankly, I've been disappointed with the MPG I'm getting with the '03.

Anybody doing any better? My next step in the quest for increased mileage is a different breather.

Home made tymar

I drive similar conditions and the breather added almost 1 mile per gallon. Definitely worth the effort and the 40 dollars to do it.

Yeah you'll really like the bigger intake. It will allow more air in so better fuel combustion, hence less fuel needed for the same power!!!!

Wannaburn,

Try the next setting up I think you'll find it to be to your liking and still have good fuel econo.

99f250,

Not sure what all the mileage differences are I actually have a predator. I love it. It is pretty close to the SCMT, but I found I get great fuel econo. with the 60 hp setting and just enough power to keep me happy. I drive like a normal driver but it is sure nice to know all the power in my beast is just waiting to come out. Look out rice burners.

get the gauges first before you put the SCMT in you'll burn up your turbo!!!!!!! Then get the 4 in turbo back exhaust. And tymar or airaid intake.

Start out with boost and pyro and then whatever else you want. There right take that out until you get the gages. Downpipe exaust and intake will help keep it cool but if you dont have gauges you wont know what damage may be happening

Thanks Wannaburn. Is It Better To Stay With A 3.5 Down Pipe Then Size Up To 4" Or Go 4" All The Way.

I have 4 all the way back. Make a new post and ask that very question somebody will know. All I can say is the pyro runs cooler with the 4. about 100 cooler

3.5 OR 4" EXAUST

I Have A 99 7.3 Psd. Is It Better To Use A 3.5 Down Pipe Then 4"the Rest Of The Way Or 4"all The Way. I Have Installed A Super Chip Set At Tow Safe.
