a little scared

looking to buy a new excursion 6.0 4x4. I'm now a little hesitant with the postings about the problems with 6.0. I thought it was a great motor. Everyone I know (5 people) that have one love it. Are the problems rampant or are they limited to a production period? Have they corrrected the flash programming problems? any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Although Ford with the release of it's 6.0 did make the word 'Reflash' a popular main stream buzz word for awhile I am seeing fewer and fewer 'problem' posts and personally know fewer people with problems with the newer release dates. Ultimatly the decision is yours.

Were "ALL" on new ground here!!! Mine is a "old timer" build, and/but only has 3000 miles on the clock so far.. I've had a few rear mains installed to get the "small" leak fixed.. And a starter failed, but that could happen to any make, model or year/build.. And a few other minor issues.. And of course the latest flash.. I installed a Predator, and the power is awesome!! Truck is georgous!! Sure, we may have some problems but, Ford does make a good truck.. I would go for the latest build date, to best insure a most trouble free purchase.. OR,, Drive'm all and make a decission then.. The 6.0 is a sweet running/sounding engine....Good Luck......

Xer,
In the Superduty forum someone mentioned that he was told by salesman at a Ford dealer he may want to wait another year or two for Ford to get the bugs out. I was just told that there is a F-250 with a 6.0 PSD in the town I live in that has been back to the dealer 6 times since January and the dealer is taking the truck back. I personally don't the person and it's just hearsay to me so far but hopefully more people will respond and give you input on their experiences with that engine. You may also want to post a message on the superduty forum. There are several threads discussing the 6.0 and 7.3 PSD's there. Also don't forget the V-10 is also a great option for towing and an alternative to a diesel the cost difference offsets the gas mileage. That has also been discussed over and over again in these forums. But mostly it has to do with personal preference whether you go with gas or diesel.

Xer,
You may want to look at this thread in the SuperDuty forum.

if anyone were to decide on a v10..... i would personally wait till the 05 model year... the three valve version will make the gas vs. oil decision MUCH harder......i know it would have made it more difficult for me.

i have no regreats however.

good luck either way!

Xer,
Mattsf is right, sounds like 05 may be the year for the 6.0 PSD too. Boy if you haven't see this thread in this forum read it. I think you can see more points of view than you'd ever want on this issue.

In this forum. "Anyone completly satisfied"

I am sorry but if you look at all the 6.0's sold and how many have problems.....
Well yes, some have problems and many thousands do not. We do not have all the owners out there as a sample rate.
...........WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW MANY HAVE BEEN SOLD..........
What we do know, far more have been sold then have problems. If not it would be a TOTAL recall from Ford, wow wouldn’t that be nice for the rest of us!!!
That does not comfort those of us that have problem ones.
If you are on the fence then wait.
IMO, I WOULD buy.............I did!!
