HELP--Lift quesion--

Ok,

I have a 01 f-150 stepside...black and it's 5spd....i want to put a lift on it.....i have found a million posts saying no body lift, some saying it's easy, some saying use suspension.....whats the deal????

If it's going to be a pain to do i'll wait and buy a suspension lift sometime but if a body lift is "do-able" and not going to look rediculious then i'll go that rout becuse i'll save like 2 grand.

Questions:

now, if i go with a body lift what company makes the best one on the market and if i go with a suspension lift what company makes the best for around 1,500 bucks and how difficult is a suspension lift to put on.....my dad is a former mechanic and i am very mechanically inclined

They are not real hard to do. You will need to lengthen the shifter but you can add a piece low enough where it is covered by the shift boot.
How high do you want to go? More than 3 inchs you need to do a suspension lift.

i'm just going to do 3 inches......question....after the 3 inches of body lift i know the truck is going to still sit forward like all fords do....the leveling kit...is that a good way to go? Once i have the lift on i'm going to put new tires on....i'm thinking 295/75/16s...mud terrains or 285s.....on the stock wheels

Yeah if i were you i would go with a leveling kit, they are fairly sheap and allow you to fit up to a 33 i believe, might only be able to fit 31's, don't know for sure.

if your just going for mild lift and leveling your truck, why not just put some adjustable shocks, or air shocks all around, then you set it where you want it. air shocks can give a rough ride if you over fill them, but aired up properly can also give a nice ride........maybe airshocks and a 2" lift?? just my $.02..

Ha! Here's two in a row I'll get you on. Shocks do not change ride height, even adjustable shocks like the Rancho 9000. They only dampen movement. The only exceptions will be coilovers, Fox airs, etc which are different (and $400 a piece) as they're designed to actually suspend the vehicle. You'll want to either get a full set of springs or a leveling kit to fix the drooping front end.

well i gotta argue with that a bit.....i had a newer truck, it wasnt a ford(please forgive me) but it was fullsize, i put air shocks on it front and rear, and stock height on it was only a little under half full on my shocks, aired up would put it about 2"s higher in front and 3"s in rear, not a drastic change, but definitly noticable, my boss asked me if i added bigger tires or something after i put them on.........now i will admit to being wrong about adjustable shocks, rancho 9000's only change the amount of dampening...my mistake...after reading several other posts on different topics ive come to realized that im a partially intelligent dumb hillbilly and proud of it
