Question Used Bearing Preload

In my 1990 F150, I had to change out the pinion seal. My pinion was quite loose creating the oil leak in the first place. Is there a procedure other than the one in the Haynes or Chilton manual someone else can share?

Thanks in advance

Dan.

Well.......I am out of time. I need to put this together today. I am going to play it by ear and post my procedure if I can figure one out

Well......I finished the work. After I replaced the old leaking seal, I tightened the yoke until the end play was gone. I then turned the nut about 1/8th of a turn further. So far so good. Test driven the truck and all is good. I have no noises and no more high speed vibrations associated with the loose pinion as before.
I am not saying this is the right procedure. It is working for me but it is my alternate other than doing it the scientific book way.
