Anyone have a lead on aftermarket direct fog light replacements for the '03 style fog lights? I got power hungry and put some hot replacement bulbs in mine, the glass got so hot that as soon as I splashed a little water on them going through a little water hole the freakin' lense busted on the driver side. That was even after I backed off to like a 65W bulb too. I figured out before that that 100W bulbs fry themselves if you stop for more than about a minute and don't have that air rushing around them.... Why do I feel like Tim Allen?
Ya I found some OEM replacements on line the other day at $57 new - never thought of checking eBay. I don't really understand ford, they make these fog lights in 3 pieces; the fixture, the reflector, and the lens, yet you can't just buy one of the three, you have to buy the whole assembly..... frustrating. Well if all else fails I'll go to OEM I was just hoping PIAA or HELLA or someone had a direct replacement for this application and I'd just upgrade.
I use 55w 7000K bulbs and havn't had a problem. At least you can see that the lines are on when you turn them on. Got mine off Ebay for about $14 a pair plus shipping I think. I can set you up with the vendor if you want to buy them direct. Price is about the same. I like them because they match color with my 7000K headlights.
Are the 7000K bulbs white, true blue, or standard? I have some sylvania 'cool blue' in my headlights now and would like to somewhat match them. They aren't REAL blue just a blue tint with a fairly white light.
Yeah, i hate how they only sell things in a set, if there are like 3 pieces to it. Its like almost pro-waste. Cause you got to throw the whole assembly away. A little off subject, but at ACE, new coffee maker 12.99, replacement coffee pot for the coffee maker 14.99. So you just throw away the old one and buy a new one. Its a waste
H3 bulbs are the ones I have for my 2001. They look very cool. Although you may have to shut them off in town. I've driven in front of my son driving my truck in town and combined w/ the headlights they are pretty bright. You can definately tell the driving lights are on. I hated my Explorer. You couldn't tell if they were on or not. Why have them?
Thanks for the info MrR, I'm checking them out. Sorry for such a late reply but I have been out of the forum scene for a while, got busy... So you have these bulbs in your fog lights and no problem huh?? What about if you were to walk up and splash a bucket of water on them after having them on for 20 miles? I think that is where I had problems, the glass got hot then I went through a fair size puddle and wammo, busted the glass.
I did, unbelievable but no one had one yet. Fact of the matter is I wanted to go brighter but now have my doubts as to just how much heat the stock lenses can handle. I was hoping to find a PIAA or HELLA type light that would swap out easily and give me that extra oomph I was after. I found some good deals on full assembly replacements if I need to go that route, no biggy, just some wishful thinking.
You know, I was just rethinking this & it occured to me, if both lights were on & it was a design problem, seems to me both should have cracked.
So maybe that one that did, just wasn't hardened properly. You know they do them in batches, so maybe this one didn't get the proper heat profile & was cooled too quickly, just a thought.
That could be true PAW but if I remember correctly it was only the one that cracked that got the brunt of the puddle. Seems I looked up and there was a huge puddle/hole favoring the left side of the road and I just didn't quite get around it in time. Hard to say, it's been a while now, but I hope your right and I don't have the same problem again.
