Ok, about 4 months ago the bearings in my 75 f100 4x4 truck fell out on the drivers side. So I had someone replace the bearings, seals. Well about 3 months after that they fell out again, this time ruining my hub, locked the nuts on the spindle, and ruined my lockout. This only happened on the passenger side. I didn't think the bearings were supposed to go out that quick. Can anyone help me out here?
They aren't supposed to fail that quick. Mine ( 71 4x4 F100 ) have been fine for at least 10 years since last front end work. Did the person who did the work do it correctly ? If it came apart after only a few months....seems they owe you an explanation at least. DF, @ his Dad's house
Check your wheel bearing adjustment nuts and the lock ring that goes between them. It sounds like they're loosening up. Just get new ones.
This happened to me awhile back. The outer lock nut split in one spot causing it to back off, thus loosing tension on the bearings. It wasted my lockout and spinde. The scary thing is the only way I knew I had a problem was the fact that the hub dial wouldn't turn without vice grips. It drove great and wasn't making any noise.
