Hey guys I have noticed that guys that have the same brand truck wave at each other more than guys that have different brands. Maybe its just me I don,t know. I think sometimes we look at the brand of the truck instead of the person and say oh another_____ and then dont wave. To me it makes no difference. I wave at everybody. This is kind of a silly thread but what do you think.
The wave thing can be cool if it's part of the culture of that particular vehicle. Being a Vetter, I'm used to the wave. 90% of Vettes wave at each other when they pass. It's so engrained in the culture that most of the time I'm waving back rather than initiating. When someone doesn't wave back I usually assume they are new to Vette ownership. It took me a few days to figure out why they were waving with my first Vette too.
Now, Ford trucks don't seem to have waving as part of ownership culture. In my 67 I get waves from any other old vehicle. I think it's more old car related than Ford truck related. I have initiated a few waves to other 2004 trucks recently and have recieved waves back. But I think it's because the truck is reletively rare here and is a new body style. I expect the waving will stop as the truck gets older. Waving to every Ford truck would be a full time job.
Both hands on the wheel, that is a rarity, usually it is eating, calling, combing, brushing the teeth, writing a dissertation, reading, drinking, changing clothes, tying shoes, assembling the dash, smoking, talking with some one directly behind themselves, by turning around, slapping the kids, chasing the dog, trying to cut a tomato, this is what I have witnessed my self………….waving …WOW
Waves were exchanged when I owned a sports car, vette, hot rod and Harley.
But never have waved at another late model truck...unless the driver was a female and waved at me first .
I don,t see a problem with waving if it not going to interfere with driving. Tim is right about drivers sometimes they think that they are on auto poilt or something. Doing all kinds of stuff there. Yeilding is the biggist issue we have in our county.
It was a big thing with Jeep owners. When I had one (stock) everybody wave`s at every fellow Jeep owner But as soon as I lifted it, put 35`s on and made it in to a crawler nobody waved anymore. I guess it was Jeep envy.
Seems here in the smallish country areas, everyone in a truck waves at each other. Cars don't wave and don't get the waves. I can remember when I got my first truck it was like I finally learned the secret handshake, all the sudden people were waving at me...got to where I was hoping I'd pass a truck so I could be the first to wave. I think it's a neat gesture. Any reason to be friendly is a good one. Now that I've moved into the city, I don't see it anymore.
I have my 64 F-100 and give and recieve waves and thumbs up from nearly every classic vehicle I go by, especially old trucks..I have never went by an old pickup truck in my 64 and not get a wave back
I guy I met in NY told me (when I mentioned I bought a place near Martinsville, VA) that they are still fighting the Civil War down here... everytime anyone would see his NY plates they would show the universal sign of dis-respect...turns out it is the "wave" for this area...both hands on the wheel and a raising of the index finger. Mostly those driving trucks are the wavers.
Most the truckers around here (my group of friends, MOST of us drive trucks) lol always wave, it is an old car thing tho, i always get waves when i drive my dads 57 chevy. Also works with Rv's
