New Trucks - wait to Mod??

My Dad is getting a new truck and I wanted to check on this. I think I read/heard somwhere that you are supposed to wait so many miles before you get a chip and stuff. I couldn't find anything on any of the mod sites but... Is there any truth to this and if so what's the milage to be?? And if so does that go for any HP mod like even the exhaust, intake, etc., or just fueling enhancements? I finally had him talked into letting me hop up his truck when he started having a bunch of problems with it so hopefully I can do a little playing with the new one!

I don't remember what the owners manual called for as a break in period, but I think that would be a good gauge of "when to modify" if you're talking about a brand new truck.

Then again, I've seen new trucks on dealer lots with chip, exhaust and intake already installed, so maybe there is no bad time to start. Warranty concerns aside.

I have had my truck chipped since 1,000 miles The best thing i could have done. I like to break in my trucks like im going to drive them all the time, I guess that means no break in time.

OK so now 2 friends from around home here swear that you're supposed to wait 10,000 miles before you do a chip - but neither on them know where they got that number from? O well - 'till I get my Dad talked into it it'll probably have a couple thousand miles on it anyway!
