strange problem.....

strange problem.....

Hey, I have a 69 f100 w/ a 360 and if I leave it still for about 2 hours and try to start it w/ the carb shut it will fire right up, then just sizzle and turn off. Then It wont start,when i try to start it right after, it will just turn and turn and turn.

So I have to slam on the peddle when I start it to get it running, then its fine, What the problem? Thanks..........

Sounds like fuel percolation. Installing a carb spacer will likely cure most of that.

Sounds like the fuel boils away in the carb when the truck is shut off due to a hot manifold. You might need a spacer.

I have a spacer already. What else could it be?

I am thinking maybe the fuel filter???

Whats a good sign that its the fuel pump.. Thanks.

I had the same problem, mine turned out to a timing issue. You may want to check that.

No, I kno its not. Its a fuel problem.

I put a gas container in there and ran the fuel tube right after the fuel filter and nothing came out.

So first I will change the tubes by the filter and the fuel filter.

Then hopefully, it wont be the fuel pump... Any way of finding out if thats the problem?

You could attatch a length of fuel line to the out side of the pump and, with the coil wire disconnected, turn the engine over to see if you get fuel. But if the engine runs fine other than this hot start problem it's most likely not the pump.
Chances are better than good that this problem lies in the carb itself, either through heat soak or some fuel leakage into the engine. Next time it sets for a while pull the air cleaner and look inside the carb and at the floor of the intake, if it's wet then there's your problem, As the fuel heats up in the bowls it expands and leaks into the engine causing a flooding condition, opening the throttle to full introduces more air which aleviates the overrich and lets the engine start.

Alright I just went back and tried to start it w/ the fuel line directly from the fuel pump. I took off the fuel filter. Well, nothing came out at all...

So.. this means, its either the fuel lines or pump... or someone siphoned out my gas... I hope thsi is the problem, being that its on E...But I put well over 10$ in and only drove 3 miles. Hmm well I will have to check it out..
