Here is the thing. My '88 I-6, as some may know, has haad aa history of idleing problems. I have done just about everything that has been sugjested so far. And SOME of it helped!! HOWEVER, now it idle's properly (750-800 RPM) when I first start the truck up, but after it reaches opperating temp it goes back up to 1,200-1,300 RPM. Could this have something to do with the EGR thingy? TPS checks out OK at all temps. As does the Electro idle thingy on the intake manifold. Has all new intake gaskets.
Can annyone help again?
Have you already replaced your fuel filter? What about using a professional grade fuel injector cleaner? Is your throttle linkage hooked up properly and moving freely? Have you checked to make sure your throttle body is operating properly?
TO: fordflaresides,
I have not replaced the fuel filter. Could not see why that could make it idle faster when warm. However, I am shure they need replacing annyway. Are they in the tank or frame rail? I did not see any in the engine compartment. I have used 4 bottles of LUCAS fuel system cleaner, never seemed to help/hurt. Throttle linkage is fine. Throttle body reads ok at all temps. Any other ideas? Fuel pressure is also ok at all temps. Thanks for the replys! ------------------------------kj
to brownbeast sounds like you have a vaccum leak and some times they are hard to find. i had a 84 with the 300 and it would do the same thing the carb would work lose on the intake check that it is possible it could be doing the same thing. hope this helps
here's a quick vac check you can do but be careful, start her up and spray carb cleaner around intake, bottom of carb etc . if the motor dies while spraying a certain spot or you notice a big time change in idle when doin this then you found your leaker! I had the same prob and it drove me nuts till i did this and found it was the intake in my case. Believe me i couldn't hear the leak and it was there!
brown beast i have posted here also and have the same problem.i have checked ohms on the iac-9.7checked volts11.9at the connector to iac.sprayed cleaner around intake, checked vacume steady at 16in,coolant sensor checks at 10.4 ohms.im still hunting for the problem.i also scaned the pcm and get egr code 34.my egr is blocked off.i dont want to throw parts at it 100 bucks a throw.shine some lite guys
