odd idle speed now! Any help?

Here is the thing. My '88 I-6, as some may know, has haad aa history of idleing problems. I have done just about everything that has been sugjested so far. And SOME of it helped!! HOWEVER, now it idle's properly (750-800 RPM) when I first start the truck up, but after it reaches opperating temp it goes back up to 1,200-1,300 RPM. Could this have something to do with the EGR thingy? TPS checks out OK at all temps. As does the Electro idle thingy on the intake manifold. Has all new intake gaskets.
Can annyone help again?

May try a coolant tenperature sensor if it always rises with temperature; should be 1200-1300 cold and 700-800 warm.

Have you already replaced your fuel filter? What about using a professional grade fuel injector cleaner? Is your throttle linkage hooked up properly and moving freely? Have you checked to make sure your throttle body is operating properly?

TO: fordflaresides,
I have not replaced the fuel filter. Could not see why that could make it idle faster when warm. However, I am shure they need replacing annyway. Are they in the tank or frame rail? I did not see any in the engine compartment. I have used 4 bottles of LUCAS fuel system cleaner, never seemed to help/hurt. Throttle linkage is fine. Throttle body reads ok at all temps. Any other ideas? Fuel pressure is also ok at all temps. Thanks for the replys! ------------------------------kj

try cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner and a bottle brush & rag. The engint temp sender could be bad or the IAC motor in the throtle body.

to brownbeast sounds like you have a vaccum leak and some times they are hard to find. i had a 84 with the 300 and it would do the same thing the carb would work lose on the intake check that it is possible it could be doing the same thing. hope this helps

here's a quick vac check you can do but be careful, start her up and spray carb cleaner around intake, bottom of carb etc . if the motor dies while spraying a certain spot or you notice a big time change in idle when doin this then you found your leaker! I had the same prob and it drove me nuts till i did this and found it was the intake in my case. Believe me i couldn't hear the leak and it was there!

..my 83 bronco 300/6 does this a bit too. Not bad but the idle goes up/down when it's warmed up. Ok when warming up from cold.

Unblock the EGR

and see what happens. Not a good thing to just block them off.
