Question Hypertech Programmer for V10

http://www.hypertech-inc.com/fordv10trk.html

Is this the same hypertech programmer that has been out there? I just received my April 04 4wheelparts catalog and it has a short write up on page 34. Looking at the website, I can't really see the dyno chart all that well for the 2001, but the 99 V10 chart shows decent gains for 87 octane.

Around these parts 85 octane is regular, 87 is mid, and 91 is high. So running 93 or 95 octane for high performance is a real PIA due to the use of expensive octane boosters. I found a price of $309 for the programmer but for 10hp and 25ft/lbs seems a little steep compared to the Diablo two mode chip.

Any thoughts or clarifications to my thinking would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't keep up on Hypertech part numbers, they are pretty much a non-issue for me these days, most everyone is getting Superchips and Diablo these days. IMHO, Hypertech works primarily through the retail storefront channel.

The Superchips Microtuner will work with 91 octane. Most octane boosters are bogus. When they say 5 octane points, they mean 0.5, not 5.0. A Diablo chip can also be programmed for 91... what state are you located in?

Hey Ken, I'm in Colorado were we have a whopping 85 as our "regular" gas. 87 mid and 91 high.

That's fine. The higher the altitude the lower the octane requirements. I've know of a few people running performance tunes with 89 octane at high altitude (would require 91+ at sea level).

Stop!!

I had a Gibson cat back exhaust and AEM Brute Force air intake installed in my 01 V10.
When the Hypertech programmer was added I got a lot of pinging,I reset it for the higher octane setting and fueled up with 91 octane. No change and on the advice of Hypertech the off road shop that installed it has given me a full refund. On top of that when I tried to reset the tuning back to stock I had picked up a DTC p1000 that was not there prior. Everyone tells me that the code is harmless and it the code that says check of all OBD 11 systems not complete. I could not clear the code. I have no reason to believe that the 1100 miles I drove with the programmer on damaged my truck or not
