Annoying back up beep

How do I unhook this dang thing? I was waiting to get some manuals on my van but can't seem to find out how you disable that annoying back up beep. It's a 98 E350.

Thanks

Usually the backup alarm is mounted underneath the rear bumper. I would suggest cutting and capping off the wire.

Thanks, I can't just put it in reverse and go looking around so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I can't tell you how much that thing drives me crazy. I'll check it out tomorrow.

If you have a box van I won't recommend completly unhooking the back-up alarm. Try running the alarm off a incab switch. That would allow you to use it in areas with a lot of foot traffic, cutting down the risk of an "incident".

Nah, it's an E350 passenger van.

You should be able to turn the key on (don't start engine) and put into reverse. That would make the alarm come on. Any ways the alarm should be mounted near the back, either in the bumper or on the frame rail.

It should be wired into one of the back-up lights, mounted either inside the bumper, on the frame, or inside the taillight. Just clip the wires and tape or cap them off. Although, I'm liking the incab switch idea much better!

Exodus1980 suggested a good spot to check, the tail lights. I haven't seen many passenger van set up with back up alarms, so maybe the PO relaced the tail light with one of those built in alarm type bulbs.

Yeah, I checked underneath and didn't see anything so I guess my next option is to check the taillight housing itself.

Thanks for suggesting the taillight housing, that's exactly where it was so I just pulled the light and no more beeping. Now I just need to go get another light and I'm good to go.
