I am looking at putting a new cluch in my 99.5 psd. What do you guys think about the single mass flywheels. Do they last as long or should you just stay with the traditional dual mass flywheel. Also what aftermarket clutch kit do you recomend or should I just stay with OEM. Thanks!
This is the best site on the net I appreciate all the expert advice.
Nate
Your truck came with the smfw in it. You have a stock Valeo 13" clutch and smfw. Ford has had several problems with premature failures with these clutches and many included damage to the input shafts. The Luk replacement as already mentioned is a nice improvement over the stock setup. Let me know if you have any questions.
Mr. Clutch,
Thanks for the advise. I am new to owning a psd and just want to do what is best to promote a long life for the drivetrain and trany. The one mechanic that I talked to about the smfw said he was unsure about installing a smfw because Ford must have put the dmfw in for one reason or another. My truck is a 99 350 4x4 and has 100k on it and the clutch is slipping like no tomorrow. I must blame myself for speeding the destruction of the pressurplate do to just installing a superchip microtuner. I would love to go to the smfw because of the $ and easy clutch pedal, but I don't have the vast knowlege that you and others have on this web site. Any more info that could set me on the right track as to what I should do would be a great help. What do you think about Bully Dog's 400 to 600hp clutch and is LuK the only smfw that you would go with?
Again thank for your time in replying to my question.
