So far the people on this board have helped me choose all the upgrades i want to get for my truck, and I need your help again!
This time I am looking to get an intake
the three I am looking at are
AFE
Tymar
and AirRaid.
Just for some background. I am using my stroker for commuting purposes only, no towing at all.
Unfortunately it isn't an interstate commuter, it is just a windy and flat in spots 2 lane road, for 80 miles a day.
So now, what would you recommend? :-)
I had a chance to check out the AFE (neighbor's), and I'm not sure how that box is going to guarantee you outside air (not saying yet it won't). I would think you could build your own pretty easily. I also wonder if you couldn't use the front portion of the factory snorkel to blow outside air back across the filter, should work as long as your moving.
I'm going to have to see what I can come upwith, have the best of both worlds for me.
I use an AFE and it does seal quite well against the under side of the hood. I can see that the rubber gasket is pretty much evenly compressed all the way around and there's a clear outline of the AFE box impressed in the hood's sound-dempening mat.
I have read one person mentioning a whistling noise after installing the AFE, that was possibly due to an air leak in the seal. If it whistled, that was probably a very small gap, a larger gap wouldn't whistle. I don't know if it might have been because of a difference in how his particular hood might have lined up, or if the kit and its seals were correctly manufactured and installed. In the event of that occurring, it would be easy enough to see where the gasket isn't being properly seated and to adjust it.

Black painted steel (wrinkle finish- looks classy). Two pieces that screw together. There's a fitting for the filter restriction gauge-sensor. The gasket around the top is made out of a rubber material similar to the weather seals around the truck doors. It seals up against the pad underneath the hood.
