Question Sqeaky frontend when tunring wheels

I am looking for some advice if anyone can help. My 97 expedition has 90,000 miles on it, the problem is when I turn the wheels to the left and right on the truck at a complete stop there is a loud squeaking sound comming from the frontend. I took it to a front end shop and they said it needs new ball joints, 4 tie rod ends, and a gear box costin $1,150. Can anyone tell me if they think I got a truthful answer and what the problem may be? Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 97 expy about a year ago. It was the pitman arm. A machanic friend suggested injecting grease into the rubber boot behind the pitman arm, but I decided to have it replaced. It cost about $55 and that solved the problem.

By the way, last week I had both inner and outer tierod ends replaced along with idler arm and tierod sleeves. It cost $850. I had a vibration/shimmy in the front end so this what the Ford dealership recommended. Before I had this work done, I had the wheels balance 3 times and rotated 2 twice; Vibration was still there so I had the work done. Vibration is substantially reduced but I still feel it slightly so I ordered a Rancho steering stabilizer for about $63. I have 116,000 miles on my expy.

You all wasted your money. Go to pep boys, advance, autozone, or any other parts shop. Buy a grease zerk fitting with a needle on it and put some grease under the rubber seal. Don't puncture the seal just slide the needle under the seal. Cost $3.00. you have to have a grease gun of course.
