I wish it werent so...

well its that time again...my tires are gettin slicker by the day
what are some tips yall may have to preserve tires toward the end of their life? i don't have quite enough $$ for new tires at the moment and im workin on liftin it another inch or two and trimmin so i can fit some 35s. I currently have pro comp mud terrain 33s. Im probly crazy but if yall got a way to make these suckers decent for another couple weeks that would be awesome! ahh the pain of paying all that money, yet the joy of those new tires on yer truck! only a few more paychecks i guess! thanks boys

Yes.....airing down will help in that terrain. But on the road will make them wear even faster. Start saving!

take it easy on the turns, rotate them every 1000 miles or so, keep them at exact pressure if possible, no more burn outs , check and make sure they are as balanced as possible.

what's your prospective tire of choice this time?

Suck all that sucky air out and fill them up with nitrogen. They say it helps tires wear better, not sure how much though. I know its a lot eaiser to keep exact air pressure with nitrogen and no air in there. I used to run it in my racecar tires, it can't hurt, thats for sure.

could go to a tire store or junkyard and buy a set of used tires. I can get used 235/75's around me for about $10-$20 each. Slap those one and suffer with the 29's until you have enough money for real rubber.

ya, i went to les schwab yesterday and asked if they had any free tires....they guy pointed at a pile of tires....ends up that i was able ot find 4 31x10.5 tires with about 10% tread on them. cost me 28 dollars to put them on my wheels.....this was all for the scout of course. but yes, you can run on free tires for a long time hahaha.

Buy retreads!

http://www.high-tec-retreading.com/

Do not even balance them. Just drive them for 20K miles. Retread 33s for $68, how can you lose when you need the truck for farm work?

Junkyards have all kinds of wonderful treasures, you just have to keep checking all the time. I was in today and found a set (didn't check the size) of 4 almost new snow tires with decent alloy rims for $50. That was for the set, not 1 tire. Or you can just give them a call and see what they have available. Then when you get your new tires chock the front wheel and burn those old suckers right off!
