Help. The PDL on my 2000 crew cab seem to lack power and only some of the doors will lock and unlock all the time. If I try to lock and unlock several times in a row the problem gets worse. Almost like the batteries are low, but everything else works great. Anyone had this problem before? Any ideas?
Thanks
yes...have it now and just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. its probably the lock actuators. they stink. depending on how deep your dealerships pockets are, I've heard of them costing anywhere from $40 - $80 a piece. supposed to be real easy to fix about an hour to hour and half to change all four. 1st one is the worst, then gets easier from there. go to the top of the page and do a search for "lock actuator" and you will get several hits on the subject, as well as some advice on how to change them.
i just had the same problem with my 99 c/c. There was a long thread about it not too long ago. It was titled "locating a ground"
search for that and read up
Had to change out 3 of mine that all went bad within 2 weeks of each other. Like Fisher of man said the first one is a pain which is true. After that you can figure out the tricks to get the new one back in. Removing the actuator is way harder than installing the new one. There is a tab on it that needs to be pushed in but you can really see it. Since there bad just pry it out of there and one of the holding tabs will snap off. The new ones from ford. The only place you can get them runs about 50.00 each. I asked the ford dealer and he said they sell between 20-50 a week. At least the newer style is much better than the older style. They use metal instead of a plastic actuator rod and its designed differently. Im glad ford used the consumer as a tester.
Thanks for the info. I just bought a used '00 250 w/PSD and it has this same problem. I thought it might have been the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry that was installed by previous owner.
Hi! I have posted this several times before because mine went bad also and I have repaired friends with the same, tipical Ford locks. I purchased mine on Ebay for anywhere from $2.50 to $3.99 ea. Do a search for door lock actuators they are after market and are the same ones that alarm installers use. They are easy to install takes about 15 to 20 min each after the first one. Just put them inline, you have to drill one hole for the screw and splice the wires into the orginal lock actuators. Leave the orginals in and hooked up it will give you that little extra umph!!!. Try it it's a lot cheaper than Ford and it works fine. good luck!!!!!!!!!
