Currently putting new motor in my F-150. While bolting t/c to flex plate it seems like the nuts are going in hard. Can't tell if it's pulling on the flex plate or the nuts are just going on hard. The nuts are new from dealer. I know the t/c is in right because when the motor and trans were bolted together, there was still a little play between the t/c and flexplate. If my thinking is right, when you tighten the nuts it will pull the two together(t/c sliding in splines). I dont want to flex or snap anything especially the stud on the t/c. I am going to pull one nut off tomorrow to see if it is the nut going on hard. Any tricks or help would be greatly appreciated.
The torque convertor nuts are lock nuts and quite hard to turn.
The convertor will slide in towards the engine as you tighten the nuts.
It sounds like you got the convertor in right because you can still move it a bit
I am at about the same point with my new motor instal and have a related question. Are the torque convertor and the flywheel supposed to match up a special way. On mine they both have a dab of paint by one of the studs/bolt holes. Are these two supposed to match up or doesn't it matter.
I was wondering about your install stantojl. Seems I heard Racer
or someone else saying to mark them both with a dab of paint
so you can line them up. Sorry don't know for sure.
Hope it all goes well and runs like a crazed freak.

Its going good. I may have it rapped up this weekend. Someone may have said something about the paint. I don't recall. I know your supposed to mark the flywheel postition on the crank but on my engine (8 bolt Windsor) the bolt pattern is such that the flywheel will only go on one way. The torque convertor and the flywheel both have dabs of paint from the factory that is why I was wondering.
Did you button it up yet?
I'm not sure why the paint dabs are there. The engine and the torque convertor should be balanced ok on their own so it's not neccesssary to line them up after.
I've never seen anyone line them up.
Maybe someone else will have a better answer for you.
Thanks. I have never heard of that either but after seeing the paint dabs it got me thinking. I should be buttoning it up this weekend if the weather is decent.
