Ok whats up?
Between my rear drive shaft and the diff. is a housing. this housing bolts on the diff. on 1 side and the drive shft. sticks in the other. How many bearings are in there and is my u-joints in there also?
You have what is known as a true CV style driveshaft. Sometimes a double cardan driveshaft is called a CV driveshaft, but this is different. I think they call them "Rezeppa" CV joints or something like that. They are the same kind of joints you find on FWD cars. You don't have any "traditional" u-joints. It's an OK style shaft, but replacement is more expensive, and it doesn't hold up as well as a u-joint style shaft. If you are getting a "clicking" noise from the rear on take-off, a "shudder" like clutch chatter, or the grease boots have ripped, then you may need to replace the shaft before it grenades on you. If you plan to lift the BII at all, then replace the CV shaft with a u-joint shaft. Maybe talk to a driveline shop about whether they would recommend single or double cardan style.
