A/C compressor problem
My brother has a 1999 F-350 pick-up truck with a 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel engine and lately he has had problems with the A/C compressor not cycling back on after it cycles off. When the motor is reved up to 2,500 rpms or more it begins cooling again. The freon level is fine and he has already replaced the cycling switch. Did not solve his problem. What should he do next?

I recently had a similar problem on my '96, and it turned out to be the electrical connector on the high pressure switch at the back of the compressor. It was connected but wasn't making good contact. Sometimes you get lucky, and it's a cheap fix.

Check the air gap on the compressor clutch. Too much gap can keep the a/c clutch from not engaging. Should be close, but not enough to touch. I find this problem sometimes on the over the road diesel trucks I work on. Also, check the wire to the clutch when it cuts off and see if it regains power even when the clutch is not engaging.
