Check Engine Light

The wife called and said she has noticed a hesitation while driving and then calls back and says check engine light came on. Told her to run it by AutoZone and they said Cylinder 3 Misfiring - any help? Replace plug and wire? It's a 97 EB 4.6, any help would be great. Thanks.

How many miles? Previous maintenance?

If you have high mileage and haven't done plugs/wires, it might be time to do them all, although just doing #3 should be a quick fix.

91,000 All maintenance on schedule, plugs and wires were done about 75-80,000 miles. Supposed to leave for Virginia tonight, gonna try changing out #3 wire and plug when I get home.

I had a cylinder misfire diagnostic code in my Ford Ranger and the AutoZone guy said usually that's just clogged injectors. I ran two bottles of fuel injector cleaner through it and it cleared up.

Exact same thing happened to my friend's For Taurus. Same symptom. Same cure.

Good call propellerhead, try a bottle of Sea Foam through a vacuum line. Worst thing that could happen is you'll have cleaned your injectors and combustion chambers.

DPFE Sensor

I have a 2002 expedition with a 4.6L. I had a surging and hesitation in mine as well. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a DPFE sensor, plus the coil on number 6 was gone(apparently it wasn't firing), and some sensor on the ABS....after $658(no warranty left)....it is still doing the same thing....i'm really ****ed...not only does it take a day when I go there, and then they charge me $658.00, but it still does the same thing when I get it back. I know I should take it back again...but I'm afraid they will try to charge me another $658.00 and say it is something else.....

Ouch!

I'd be talking to the dealership GM right now!

What is "Sea Foam" and where can you buy it?

It's an all purpose internal engine cleaner. It can be added to gas, oil or "sucked" into the engine via vacuum lines. I've read hundreds of posts about the stuff and can't remember a single negative comment. Many "engine" guys swear it is a miracle product. I got mine at O'Reilly for around $5.50 a can.

Here are a couple links. If you want more info try a search.

If you don't put it in the tank, it's not going to clean your injectors. Until the intake plenum reaches the head (where the injectors are), just air travels through it.

The seafoam works great in both the injector and intake cleaning, though.
