I have a 65 f100 with a 240 that i am wanting to paint the engine.
I just bought this truck last week for a parts truck and it ran so good that i just couldnt chop it up, so i am going detail it out and use it as a daily driver while i am building my 66.
I have engine pulled and cleaned ,but dont know what the original color was for a 65 6cyl. Any help out there?
Thank you,
Wes
Red block and oil pan and black valve cover and air cleaner. The V8's (352's) were black block and gold valve covers. Not sure when they went to Ford Blue.
My '62 f-250 292 has red valve covers, & the insides were also painted that color. I am the 2nd owner, & the State owned it before that, & I don't think they were ever repainted. Checker Auto carries Ford Red for engines. They also carry old Ford Blue, which is dark, & Ford Blue, which is more pastel. That is what is on my '70 f-350 360. www.eastwoodco.com carries engine paint, I got some that I liked, some of it was was Mustang Blue, so I cannot use that! So I used the Checker red on the covers, Old Blue on the block (don't know if this is correct for that year, but it is on & looks ok, so it will stay), a black satin from Eastwood specifically for engine compartments (probably similar to other auto store spray paint), for the air cleaner, inner fenders, other misc. parts, & original air cleaner decals are out there also. I will do the oil pan next, probably with a gloss black. Art
FE refers to the Big Block engine family 352 - 360 - 390 - 427 - 428 used in many Ford trucks and cars. All use the same block and have many parts in common.

your right and i have a few things to add. FE stands for Ford Edsel it was a series of engines from 1958 to 1976 332-352-360-390-406-410-427-428, they did all use somewhat the same block except bore sizes ranged from 4.00 in the 352 to 4.23 in the 427, some were painted gold like the thunderbird 390, some red, and after 66 i believe they were old ford blue.
Are you trying to keep it as original as possible? If so, then no problem. However, if you're not too worried about the originality, I believe you should just go ahead and paint the block and heads Ford blue, since it is such a great color for an engine. Just my 2 cents...
