Hey everyone,
I don't know if this has been asked before, but i can't find it on the search engine, so ill ask it. On my 79 302, how much horsepower is my a/c robbing? Im trying to decide if its worth it to keep it or not. I know the benefits of having one, but is there that much difference in performance when it is removed? I heard up to 33 horsepower, but im not sure. Do you think thats a noticeable difference? If anyone can help me or ridicule me on why im taking it off...hahaha i would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Danny
right -- the only time it draws power is when the compressor is actually turning which is really for only short periods of time even when the air is on, as such I'd keep it and when you want full power just shut it off.
Thanks guys. The reason i asked was beause i was told the more thats on the belt, the less horsepower. So buy taking A/C off and installing electic fans, the engine won't have to run those on the belt, therefore increasing the horsepower. I dont know how much of that is right, but it made sense to me, but if it doesnt make a difference when its off, then it will be better if i keep it. Thanks again!
I have to agree with everyone else, keep the a/c. Its nice to have when you want it. But I would do the electric fans. That would free up some more horses for you.
