I dont want to get myself into trouble by starting a post that turns sour about a retail giant store, but I gota ask?Is it just me or does this happen alot?
I went to (yes that store that you are thinking) and bought several items, and this is what happened.I wont mention brand names(to protect the guilty).
1st item=A brand name ceramic space heater, brought it home, plugged it in,and it worked fine, for about 5min,then it died.
2cnd item=a brand name cordless flashlight, charged it for 24hrs before using, like the distructions said to,turn it on,doesn`t work, well the little red charge light does.
3rd item=a brand name cordless doorbell,it actually worked for about a week, now it just makes a humming sound
4th item=An office chair,it is now about 2 weeks old and already the material is split in two places.
All of these things were bought at the same time and place about two and ahalf weeks ago.
I have shopped at K-mart,Pennys,Sears,etc and have never had so many items turn out to be junk at the same time?
Is it just me?Or has this happened to you too?
This would appear to fall into "you get what you pay for" and "the higher price is soon forgotten".
Thats just it Mike,I bought the higher priced brand name stuff,so I wouldn`t be buying junk. Two of these products were made by a name everybody knows.(I`LL give you a hint=Gary what u talkn bout willis?).I wonder if these manufacturers sell one quality to one store and a lesser quality to another.
My tent, camp stove, cooler, tent heater, are all made by this same company and none were bought at this retailer and they all are good products that I have no complaints about.Kinda makes you wana say Hmmmmm.
Oh and Jmatteau,YOU funny

I think Tim hit the nail on the head. Also, I don't like the extremely "liberal" return policies at some of these retailers. It just encourages people to return things they break and then these items probably go right back on the shelves.
I know it was true years ago, but I'm not sure about today...that certain large stores would get great prices from manufacturers if they bought the products that just weren't up to the manufacturer's #1 quality standards. Like...items that had labels applied upside-down, inconsistant color, tollerances not perfect...that sort of thing. Brand name paint companies...for instance, would produce a different product...same colors, different numbers, lower price, less 'good' ingrediants for the big volume retailers, (a 37000 series instead of the normal 57000 series). The buying public didn't have a clue.
Did you look to see if these products were made off-shore?
King, did you ever think you were just having a REAL BAD day?
I have had problems with some products, but not like that. And I even have my on law, like Murphy's. Only mine is:
If you have planned for everything and there is no way anything can go wrong, it is going to be so screwed up you will never see daylight.
I was going to say the same thing Kingfish. Sometimes you just have days when EVERYTHING goes wrong. Not to say the products weren't crap but you never know. Maybe it just wasn't your day.
I must say though this is one of the many reasons why I don't shop at "that one store" except for a very few items I need to buy on a regular basis. I can't stand the store or 99% of the people in there.
Hmmm... sounds like you did have a really bad day.
I'm not sure thee retailer is to blame. As long as they stand behind these things and give you new ones within the initial period of ownership, I think they have done thier job.
The electrical things you bought are most likely to fail within the first 90 days. It's a fact of life for anything electrical or electronic. That's what warranties are for.
Every manufacture, I don't care who they are, has a bad one slip through sometimes. You made the right decision to choose the name brand. When you do have a problem, they are usualy going to be easier to get ahold of and more receptive to help.
As far as how you managed to get so many items in the same day... did you kick your cat?
No I did not ck to see where they were made,I went by brand names that I thought I could trust.Silly me!
EVERYTHING is coming out of china now. What country do you think of when you hear the brand Sony? Japan I would assume. We use their top of the line industrial monitors (televisions) for some of our own products at my work place. I noticed a few months back that they are now being produced in China!! Sony?!?
I cannot remember where I saw it, but there wasa story that company "W" tells vendor "Mart" what price that they will pay for an item and if the vendow "Mart" can make the product for that company "W" will buy it. Hence they often had products that were in VERY low quality.
You know, Aztrainer has a point. I know through work that they do this with nutritional supplements and vitamins. Many companies produce vitamin lines and packing specifically for WalMart. I never thought of it but I'd imagine that they do this with most all the products they carry. For instance the one thing I do buy at that "one store" is target ammo. It's the only place I've found 100 round boxes of Winchester pistol ammo without an insert, just all dumped in a box. I think it's exclusive to them.
You can bet if the wholesaler is wheeling and dealing to get a product in these stores they'll sacrifice somewhere to make a profit. I guess it's one more reason not to shop there!
