This topic may have been covered before, but I couldn't find it. I have a FX4 on order. I noticed on an XLT that the rear wheel wells do not have the splash guards on the inside to keep all or most of that road crap from being flung back into the tail light area and everwhere else. I drive a 2001 Screw at the moment, which does have those guards. Are these guards available after market?
You're worried about that?? I'd be worried about that wide open space up front if I were you! All that mud, water, road grime, etc. is going to get sprayed all over your exhaust manifolds, shortening their service life....AND your engine will be nasty in no time. The first thing I did was buy the front inner wheel-well guards from the dealer and install them on my truck. The rear...that's no problem at all. Nothing back there to hurt.
WXboy - do you have part numbers for the inner wheel guards? Mine comes with a partial guard in the front but the ones you got do a better job? A pic would be great if possible. Thanks
Did not know that these full inner guards were available since they weren't installed in the vehicle in the first place. Just to requote PCPoppy a part # would be great.
Yeah, my '99 had them factory...apparently Ford decided to cut costs (they save about 10 cents) and now the new ones only come with a partial guard up front. When I bought my truck, I could squat down by the front tire and look into the wheel-well and I could see my engine sitting there. NOT good....especially if you ever plan to drive off the pavement any. So I went to the dealer and ordered the full inner-wheel well guards. Cost me $14.92, and my engine stays a lot cleaner now.
Unfortunately, I have the Ranger so the part # I used won't work for you guys. The dealer can look it up for you though.
Problem is, if they don't come with them new from the factory (new F-150's), there may not be any factory Ford part for the wheel well other than what's already on it. It would be nice though to have at least the front a little more shielded from the daily gunk on the roads and so on.
The "Accessories Manager" at my dealership (high volume) told me that since it was not an "already produced" item (as in stock on another vehicle), that we'd all have to wait until the lift kits came out and 3rd party product producers offered them.
Basically, we're probably SOL until the aftermarket guys decide to produce them for us. The ones to offer them first will be those who offer the 3-6" lift kits.
