Alrighty i was wondering about in cab rattles. Now my dads 98 S-10 got me thinking about this. It rattles perty good, especially the center console. Now to some this might not be a big issue but to me it just kinda seems likie corner cutting by not fastening down things adiquitely. I was wondering if any of you have issues like this in Fords. My 82 F-150 dosnt rattle hardly at all, and when i took the dash off it was screwed down whith a rediculouse amount of hardware. Has Ford kept this up through the years? My Isuzus dont rattle(mostly becouse of lack of inteirior) and my F-150 dosnt rattle much soe the S-10 just kinda cought me off guard, it being "new and improved".
thats is the biggest difference I have noticed since I have started to sell Fords after 14 years selling GMs, a 6 year old Ford has less rattles than a 2 year old GM bar none.
Back in 93 we had gotten a new 4 door S-10 blazer.. had the optional rims, solid Black, had a Black Brush guard on the front and black nerf bars. had the new VORTEC 4.3.. I was Mighty impressed with it at the time.. However after a few months and the rattles were everywhere on th interior, however never had any clunking, etc from the outside, so the outside seemed pretty solid.
In comparing an S-10 to an f-150. One may want to consider the Fact that the s-10 usually runs a 235/75-15 as a largest tire, where a f-150 easily clears 31-10.50 or larger. Larger tires roll over obstacles easier, and should provide less of a jarring effect to the cab of the truck.. not always true, but still a fairly accurate statement.
Our Excursion has Zero rattles INSIDE, other than things in the cupholders etc, and occasionally the roof mounted airvents before they fall out.
Outside however, its got a few squeaks, rattles and Clunks going on that I cant pinpoint as everything seems tight..
My 88 Escort Wagon is still very tight inside, I write off outside rattles to the need of Shocks etc.. not a quality issue..
Good Thread!
My 93 Ford pickup rattles very badly. The dash board is loose and it bounces up and down about an inch whenever I drive on washboard or hit a bump. The interior panels are loose and cracked. The plastic things at the base of the headrests are all broken off, which accounts for most of the rattling. My dads 1989 GMC has some rattles and such, but it is also a work pickup with quite a few more miles than my pickup has.
My 98 F-150 has no rattles whatsoever. It has stayed extremely tight ever since I bought it new. I must admit I do baby it, and it doesn't see much gravel road (highway mostly). Its got about 150 000 km on it (95,000 miles or so) too. My 2002 F-350 Dually has very few rattles. Its got about 170 000 km on it. Theres one that is very slight and comes out of the drivers door. It don't bother me though, cuz it is barely noticable. And theres another one that comes from the front end of the truck. Not sure where or what, but I have to get it checked out. Sounds like an inner fender rattling. Probably just needs the bolts retorqued down. Other than that these two trucks have stayed extremely tight. Just goes to show Ford quality for ya
My 2001 Super Duty with 30,000 miles rattles like crazy. It's a regular cab, and right behind the drivers side door, up about 1/2 way in the door jamb,it sounds like something is rolling around. It's been doing it for about a year now, but I haven't gotten around to taking the plastic off to see what's in there. The exhaust shields all rattle. It seems like every time I fix one loose one, another one starts making noise and I have to track it down. Now, just in the past few weeks, something in the passenger side door is starting to make noise.
I like my truck, but to be honest, I think it is sad that a 3 year old truck with only 30,000 miles rattles and squeaks as bad as mine does.
wow i run into you luvtruck guys everywhere
I was just kinda bumbed that something as nice as my dads S-10 rattles as bad as it does. We had an Astro van that did the same thing too. But my LUV dosnt rattle except for the accasional shake when its cold and idling rough, and my F-150 is the same way...
my 90 bronco has a few rattles but it is used off-road alot and i love to jump it
my work truck a 2002 chebby (boss gave it to me i am embarased to drive it) has so many rattles i turn up the radio so i cant hear them
I hav'ent had any rattling problems in my 98' F150.
But I've had a lot of stuff come apart on it.
Small list;
1.) Mudsills both came off, don't know where one went, but the other just stripped right off as I was getting out of the truck one day.
2.) Power window button fell in through its recess on the passenger door.
3.) Headliner coming down near the windshield.
4.) Temperature **** stripped out requiring the use of needle nosed pliers to change between the heat and the A/C. (thought it might be blend door)
5.) 5 speed gear shift **** came off right in my hand - it's super glued now.
6.) Power door locks don't work anymore.
7.) Had to have it re keyed because it was getting to be an ordeal getting back into my locked truck.
8.) Tape deck dos'ent work anymore.
9.) Drivers side sun visor stripped out and came down.
This truck has been really good to me mechanically - except for what I consider to be excessive alignment problems(I don't off road). Engine and transmission have been very reliable. I put motor oil in my M5od, so that's what I attribute that to. My first M5od was a total POS on auto tranny fluid. My truck sees some harsh work for a half ton. I havent had these interior issues on GM's or Dodge's, but my doors still line up perfectly, seats work fine, again no squeaks or rattles, assist handles are solid, and all the glass is as tight as the day I bought it. These other things have been issues on other trucks - particularly GM.
I don't think twice about putting 3000lbs of sand in my F150 on occasion if need be, but I don't go out of my way to beat the interior either- these things just happen, and unless your willing to take the time and money to address each and every one of these little quirky things as they come up you have to learn to live with them. Owning all three is a good way of being able to debunk some of the things people TRY to tell you- like one manufacturers interiors ALWAYS holds up much better than anothers. JMHO .
