351m intake

On the 351m I am rebuilding, the intake has an EGR spacer under the 2bbl carb. Since I don't have any emission controls on my 77' model truck, do I need to leave the spacer in place? Also, where is a good source for a 4bbl intake for the same? (I'm trying to figure out if the 4 barrel is practical for my current budget, which is pretty small.)

If you dont need smog you can change out the plate but a 2 barrel carb spacer might be hard to find. All the spacers I have seen are 1 big hole or 4 small holes I I am not sure if you can use the 4 holer on a 2 b carb and all will line up. What I did was to take the EGR off and made a plate to bolt over the hole. The spacer also helps with carb heat, on the stock cast iron manifold, it can get real hot and is another way to cause vapor lock at the carb. The stock spacer also has a pcv vent fitting you need.

There is a hole about 3/4 inch leading into the exaust crossover that comes out under the spacer plate in the manifold. Plug this with a freeze plug, you can measure the hole and get one at your parts store. This is the best way to disable a stock intake egr system. You wont need to block off the rear of the spacer and you wont ever burn a spacer out again.
