the other day on the way to work my truck's engine overheated. the radiator overflow line burst somehow even though i cant see how there could possibly be pressure in that line. A bunch of steam was coming out of it. I guess the radiator must have been low because i put alot of water into it after that. I also replaced my thermostat. But now my truck is making nasty noises. The noise happens during the last half of my upshifts if that makes any sense. it sounds like a rattling/slight grinding, almost like deisel trucks used to sound. It is not a tick or anything lke that. The same sound happens if im in drive and the gear selector accidently goes into a lower gear when your going too fast for a lower gear. I depend on this truck as my daily driver so hopefully this can be fixed. Anybody have any idea on what this might be? hopefully it didnt damage anything from overheating. thanks
well i think i put it in sort of fast. I went into a resturant and got a pitcher of water and poured it in since i didnt want to drive it while it was steaming. it didnt really make any noises after it cooled off but on the highway today it was making those noises. the truck is a 78 f150 with a 351m and a c6 transmission.
i listened to it today and it sounded like it was sort of a clack clack clack sound in the motor. Today to and from work it didnt make any noise but later on after running an errand it sounded bad. What could this possibly be? i hope somebody can tell me what it is so i can figure out what im gonna do about it.
the cold water has a tendency to break things. (try pouring cold water into a glass that has been heated up.) Have you used a stick or stethoscope to try to pinpoint the source of the noise? I would also consider something in the water pump since it happened in conjunction with the overheat.
well it looks like my engine is toast. im going to have to replace it somehow. i blew a rod is sounds like. i figure im going to try to replace the engine.
