Angry Bronc II EEC power relay question

I am trying to troubleshoot a short, on and off I get a clicking sound in the fuel contol solenoid at the carb. I have tested it and I have power to it at
all times (when the key/car is off)
I have tracked it back to the EEC power relay. If I disconnect the relay the power is cut off. I know there is always power to the EEC computer and that feeds the EEC power relay. Does anyone know if this is normal ? I would think the relay should control power to the fuel control solenoid when the key is at start or run position.

I dont know if the EEC computer has a problem or the power relay is bad ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Keith

If an 85 works the same as my 87, you are correct, the relay should only be closed with the key at start or run.

EEC relay

When my EEC relay failed there was a broken wire on the inside. Sometimes the fuel pump would work & than it would stop. I would be driving and it would stop. Used an ohm meter to check it out. Mine would open and close the contacts if I tapped it.Tap on yours. See what happens. I would change it out if it has never been changed and has over 100 k miles.

Thanks, I decided to replace it and that corrected the problem, no power to the
fuel control solenoid. This was my short.

Appreciate everyones help.

Thanks Keith
