My 88 F250 died today so it went to the Ford garage and there was this 98 explorer sittng there 39.000 miles on it they want $10.000 for it. Is this good deal it is a XLT leather well cared for and clean. I am thinking. Let me know what you think I am thinking about getting it & let my wife drive it.
You didn't give enough details. Is it 4wd or Awd? V* or V6? How many other options? 2 or 4 doors. If it is 4wd and four door, it is right in line with blue book value.
Find out why the mileage is so low. Typical for that year should be around 75K. Ask for info on previous owner and call them. By all means drive it. Straight to YOUR mechanic and have him look it over.
The exploror is a one owner 4wd 4.0 lt. No rust or dent or scatches. The only thing that might pervent me from buying it the seats are bad I can not get commy in them. I hate power seats.
I bought a 98 xlt 4.0, leather, loaded (I think it has every option except a built-in cell phone and a passenger side power seat) in Jan 2000. It had about 34K miles. I paid 16,500 for it then (from a dealer) and it was considered a very, very good deal then (also came with a 1yr/12,000 major parts warranty).
I still have it and really like it. Also...I really like the seats too. Play around with all the power settings....it adjusts lots of ways. Plus...don't forget to inflate the lumbar support. That makes a HUGE difference. If I have it deflated....the seat feels terrible in almost any position. With it inflated about 75%.....it feels great.
